iPhone Duo Is Official: Every Confirmed Spec, Price and Date

The iPhone Duo opens like a book into a 7.6″ Super Retina XDR display. The headline engineering detail is the panel itself: ten ultra-thin layers with a nano-texture coating that cuts glare and, according to Apple, minimises the visible crease that has defined every foldable so far. The FaceTime camera on the inside sits hidden under the display. Closed, you work on a 5.4″ outer screen.

The numbers around it are the ones that matter for durability. Frame and hinge cover are grade 5 titanium, the inner display carries a scratch-resistant coating, front and back are Ceramic Shield, and the whole device is IP68-rated — a first for a foldable of this kind. Open it measures 5.2 mm thick, closed 11.3 mm, and it weighs 254 g.

• Software — iOS 27 with Split View multitasking; Apple Pencil (USB-C) support follows later this year.
• Prices — €2,299 for 256 GB, €2,549 for 512 GB, €3,049 for 1 TB and €3,799 for 2 TB, German RRP including VAT.

We published the leaked fact sheet on this page hours before the keynote, so it is only fair to score it. The leaks were right about the essentials: the name iPhone Duo, the book-style format, Touch ID instead of Face ID, the A20 Pro, the dual battery, the two-colour line-up and the October sales start.

They were wrong on almost every measurement. The displays came in slightly smaller than rumoured — 7.6″ and 5.4″ rather than 7.8″ and 5.5″. The thickness figures were the biggest miss: 5.2 mm open instead of 4.5 mm, and 11.3 mm closed instead of the 9 mm that had circulated for months. The colours turned out to be Night Sky and Star White rather than a plain white and dark blue, and the German entry price of €2,299 sits well above a naive conversion of the $1,999 US figure, as it always does once VAT is included. A useful reminder that pre-launch leaks are a planning signal, never a datasheet.

As trading stock, the Duo is irrelevant for now, and it will stay that way for a while. First-generation foldables ship in small volumes, and meaningful quantities only reach the second-hand channel after the first upgrade cycles — realistically two years out. There is a second reason to be cautious: a titanium hinge and a folding panel are new failure modes, and nobody yet has field data on how they age. Grading standards for foldables do not exist.

The commercially relevant part of the keynote is what happened next to the Duo. The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max launched alongside it, and that is what re-prices existing stock: the 17 Pro generation steps down a rung, the 16 Pro follows, and the buying windows open in the weeks after the launch. There is also a quieter effect worth noting. By putting a €3,799 iPhone at the top of its range, Apple has stretched its own price ladder by a full rung. Everything below it now reads as more moderately priced — and when the ceiling rises, the residual values underneath gain room. That does not show up this month, but it shows up.
