What Drives Used iPhone Wholesale Pricing: 6 Factors Behind Your Cost Per Unit
Ask any two wholesale buyers what a Grade A/B iPhone 15 should cost and you will get two different numbers — both correct. B2B pricing for used iPhones is not a single data point; it moves with grade mix, generation, battery condition, where the model sits in the launch cycle, order volume and the destination it ships to.
This guide breaks the real cost drivers apart so you can read a quote — or build one — instead of comparing headline numbers that are not actually comparable. None of the figures below are a price list; B2B pricing is quote-based and changes weekly. But the factors themselves are stable, and understanding them is what turns a quote into a negotiation, the same way we have approached grading and pricing since 2011.

Grade mix: the single biggest swing factor
Our three-tier scale — Grade A, Grade A/B and Grade B/C — is the first and largest lever on cost per unit. A lot composed mostly of Grade A commands a premium over the same model in a B/C-heavy mix, because cosmetic condition and functional pass rate both feed into grading before a single unit is quoted. What the grades mean in practice, cosmetically and functionally, is covered in detail in our grading standards guide.
The practical lever for buyers is the mix itself, not just the grade. A single-grade order is simpler to resell at one price point; a mixed-grade lot usually lands at a lower blended cost per unit, because it absorbs the B/C tail that a single-grade order pushes back to the supplier. We compare both approaches in mixed-grade lots vs. single-grade orders.
Generation: where the model sits in the ladder
Pricing follows the model ladder, not just the calendar. We carry graded stock from iPhone 11 through the current iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a model's position on that ladder — entry, mid-range or current flagship — sets the band its cost per unit falls into, independent of grade. A current-generation Pro Max in Grade A and an iPhone 12 in Grade A are both Grade A on paper, but they are not priced on the same scale.
The full ladder, including which features separate each generation from its neighbors, is mapped in our iPhone generation comparison.
Battery health: a pass/fail floor, not a sliding scale
Unlike grade and generation, battery health is not a spectrum we price along — it is a floor. Every unit we ship is tested under full load and guaranteed above 80% battery health on every grade and every model, so a Grade B/C unit is never a battery gamble at a lower price. Testing and the 80% threshold are explained in our battery health guide.
Where battery condition does move cost indirectly is upstream, in how a lot was sourced: freshly traded-in units tend to cluster at the healthier end of the range we already guarantee, while older buyback stock needs more units tested and set aside to fill the same order.
Launch-cycle timing: why the same model costs less in some months
Every Apple launch triggers a repricing wave in consumer trade-in and buyback values. The surrounding generations move too, not only the newest one:
- SellCell's multi-year tracking: 75% of tracked models lose value between announcement and release.
- iPhone Air, 2026: the steepest post-launch decline of any model line, at 44.3%.
- iPhone 17 series, 2026: an average post-launch drop of 34.6% — smaller than the iPhone 16 series' 39% a year earlier.
What a repricing wave means for sourcing
We covered the full 2026 dataset in iPhone trade-in values after the 2026 launch. For wholesale buyers, the short version is that a repricing wave is also a supply wave: buyback- and trade-in-sourced units entering the channel in these weeks are valued against the new, lower consumer numbers before they ever reach a wholesale quote.
With the iPhone Duo's own pre-order opening at 14:00 CET on 16 October 2026, the surrounding iPhone 16 and 17 generations are the ones likely to see a second such window this quarter — not the Duo itself, which will take years rather than weeks to reach volume in the secondary market.
Volume and order structure
Our minimum order quantity is 10 units, and cost per unit at that floor is not the same as cost per unit at pallet volume: more units give a buyer more room to absorb the grade and generation mix a supplier actually has in stock, rather than paying a premium to cherry-pick a narrow spec. How the bulk-buying process itself works, from quote to shipment, is in our bulk-buying guide.
Order structure matters as much as size. A buyer who accepts a documented mixed lot is pricing against real available stock; a buyer who insists on a single model, single grade and single storage size is pricing against a narrower, and costlier, slice of it.
Documentation and logistics: the cost of verification and delivery
Every unit we ship carries its own test report from our 52-point diagnostic, an IMEI-verified identity and a place on a packing list a buyer can reconcile line by line. That verification layer is part of what a wholesale quote covers, not an optional extra. Export documentation for shipments leaving the EU is covered in our shipping & customs guide.
Delivery terms are the same regardless of order size: payment received by 17:00 CET (German time) ships the same day from our warehouse in Horn-Bad Meinberg, with EU delivery the next business day, fully insured. For destinations further out, the evaluating a wholesale supplier checklist covers the questions worth asking before you compare one landed-cost quote against another.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do two quotes for the same iPhone model differ so much?
Almost always grade mix, not the model itself — a Grade A-heavy lot and a Grade B/C-heavy lot of the same model are priced on different scales before generation or timing even enter the comparison. See our grading standards guide.
Does battery health ever lower the price of a lot?
No. We guarantee battery health above 80% on every grade and every model, so it is a pass/fail floor rather than a separate price tier. A unit that does not clear the threshold is not shipped at a discount; it is not shipped.
Is now a good time to buy, with the iPhone Duo pre-order opening 16 October 2026?
The Duo itself is unlikely to move the used market for years. What is worth watching is the repricing wave it may trigger in the surrounding iPhone 16 and 17 generations — the same pattern we tracked after the 2026 launch.
Does a larger order always lower the cost per unit?
Generally yes past our 10-unit minimum, mainly because volume gives more room to absorb the grade and generation mix actually in stock rather than paying to cherry-pick a narrow spec.
What is included in the price beyond the device itself?
A per-unit test report from our 52-point diagnostic, IMEI verification, a reconcilable packing list, and insured delivery — same-day dispatch on payment received by 17:00 CET, next business day within the EU.
